My Kenmore elite seems to have a problem with the compressor. Have gone thru the diagnostics and when in the comperssor mode only the fan works. The compressor gets hot but is not running. The relay clicks once in a while but compressor does not kick in. Is this a bad relay or bad compressor. The main board was replaced a year ago so don't think this is it. thanks

Also the capacitor seems good....no continuity. How can I checc the relay. The clicking could be from the inside overload relay? Thanks

I would pull the cover off the side of the compressor and remove the white start device. If it rattles, it's bad. You will have to go to Searspartselect to get the proper part #, then order it here on this parts site.

When I removed the square relay it seemed OK. I replaced it anyway, and the replacement looked nothing like the old one. However, it was in 2 pieces but could be plugged into the compressor . Only thing I had to do was replace one of the connectors with a larger one because the replacement had a larger prong. For the past 2 weeks....so far it is running as normal. I found the replacement instructions on a forum if interested.

Just make sure you put back in the run capacitor if it had one.
