I have a GE side by side and we first noticed that the fridge was hot to the touch, and then everything started defrosting in the freezer...a motor was running all the time too...for a few days it fixed itself and now again the defroster (I have been told its defroster) wont shut off and everything is defrosted....anything that we can do to fix ourselves? Such as parts? It was purchased in 2003 dont have model number etc on me....

Where was the fridge hot to the touch? Is the freezer food and ice melting? When you open both doors, is the middle that seperates the freezer and fresh food hot to the touch? Is the freshfood door lower than the Freezer door?

When you open both fridge and freezer doors, in the middle the length or seperater for the unit from top to bottom. 2. Yes, freezer food and ice melting, ice maker has watery ice and we turned it off. 3. Yes 4. I dont think so

What you have is either your condenser is clogged with lint, hair dust etc, or the condenser fan is not working. Pull the refer out, and remove the bottom access panel. on the right side is the condense ant to the left of the condenser is the fan. Check and see if the fan is running, and is the condenser covered in dust, lint?
