Hi, I have a Maytag washer (SAV2555) that's approx 5+ yrs old. Recently we noticed it wasn't washing clothes very well. Turns out that the agitator doesn't move very much at all anymore. It hardly turns the clothes in the drum. Same with the spin cycle - very slow spin. Sometimes it doesn't spin at all.
I'm not knowledgeable in this field at all but don't mind getting dirty and fixing things. What could be wrong? Where do I start? What might be the most common problems and how do I go about fixing them? Also let me know if fix can be done by a DIY'er like me or if I'll need special tools for anything. Thanks in advance for all your help!

Still holding out for a possible answer. Am I maybe just better off buying a new washer?

Tip the washer back and check the belts for wear, if ok, pull the front panel off and check the motor, make sure it is free to move on it's mounts.

I am having same issue Spin is very weak. I have replaced the Motor, but problem remains, Once the machine goes to wash the load clicking starts and eventually stops, but start again once the spin starts. Would the coupler cause a weak spin, or more likely no spin if the coupler was broken.
