I'm not sure of the exact age or model number of the dryer. It is a GE 5 cycle electric high capacity. When I sart it up it heats up and then shuts off. Is this just a thermostat issue or something more serious.

it is supposed to cycle on and off. if it's not heating properly (taking too long) - I'd recommend to check your vent line for blockage and call chimney guy, if needed.

What I mean is that the dryer starts to heat up, and then, turns off, not just the heat, the whole thing. about 5 to 10 minutes after starting it up it shuts off.
