My dryer runs great being 10 years old, but when I put a load in the dryer that is too heavy, the drum will stop turning. When I take out half of the wet clothes, the dryer runs fine and finishes the cycle. Is this a motor going bad? Thanks for any help.

Is this a motor going bad? Could be.
Could be that the belt is slipping or there is a problem with the drum support wheels etc.
Try turning the drum by hand. It should turn fairly easily. You may want to try this on a couple other dryer to get a feel for it. If it is hard to turn could be a bad rear support roller, drum seal, idler wheel or front support bearing (glide).
If drum turns OK then it is probably the motor. I would also check that the motor is not clogged solid with lint as this could interfere with the start winding centrifugal switch on the motor.. |
