This is the second time that my d/w latch has broken. I am very frustrated with this and would not purchase another amana. Is this a common problem?

It is very hard to say why and how it happened.
What part of the door latch exactly broke?
Gene.

Howdy,
We have the model ADW850EAS and YES, the door latch/start connection stopped working for us as well. Hubby took front panel off and saw some plastic (white) connection thing broken. We started putting a rolled up newspaper between the door and the top of the dishwasher to some how make that electrical connection work. We did the newspaper trick BEFORE we took the front panel off. We took the panel off after the newspaper trick no longer worked. It just stopped working the other day and we had to order the entire Black Color Door Handle Latch Assembly. I think it is about 62$ plus shipping.
Specifically we have MFG # PADW850EAS2 (but I think anything in this line has the same problem).

Thank you. It looks like I need to remove two screws with an allan wrench to replace the latch. Is that right?

I can't get the door open so how do I take it off? I believe the torx screws are on the inside.

It is a 2004 Amana SofSound. I don't know the model number because my tenants lost the manual and it is written...you got it, on the inside and I cannot open it. It has the handle that you push up from under to release the catch. Except it is just sitting in the door and puching it or moving it doesn't seem to engage/disengage anything. It would be great if you have any ideas. Thank you so much for replying.
