The freezer is getting to about-10 c but the refrigerator is at 14 or 15 c and the light doesnt come on allthough the bulb is good. The door switch appears to be the type that the top of the door pushes a rocking part, which is missing. My refrigerator went out bought this one and seems like I got took on it at this point now I may need to buy another one :(

I just did something I turned down the cold setting in the refrigerator compartment all the way and I heard the fans stop. Turned it back up the fans came back on.But inside the freezer compartment the only fan vents I can find the air is blowing in not out from.

You have to wait about 24 hours after any adjustment to see the result. If you turned the fresh food temperature control to "Off", you must wait at least 10 minutes before turn it back "On". Set the freezer temperature control on "A" and the fresh food control on "6" and check the temperatures after 24 hours. Post the results. Here is the Owner's manual. Gene.

I had been trying the freezer control on c I guess it was keeping the refrigerator part closed off. Now its at 7 c in the refrigerator not quite as cold as I would like,so maybe the coils need to be cleaned? I put a thermometer in a cup of water so when I open the door it doesnt let the air hit it right away. Theres a lot of hot air blowing out from underneath towards the front that I think must be going inside every time I open the doors.Im thinking about adding a small fan behind to add some extra air flow through the bottom part and carry more heat further away. Thank you for taking time to help me with this and for making this forum so informative :) By the way could you tell me where the defrost timer is on a frigidaire f44n21gswo refrigerator?

It's always a good idea to clean the condenser coils (#730 on the diagram) and keep them clean. There are TWO temperature controls in the refrigerator. The one with numbers on the dial (1 to 9) is the fresh food control which actually is the thermostat and you have to set it on "6". The second dial has the letters (A to E) and this is the freezer control which has to be set on "A". When you turn this dial, you actually open or close the air flow from the freezer into the fresh food ("A" is completely open, "E" is completely closed). Make sure after you cleaned the condenser coils, the rear cover is in place. The defrost timer is shown as #23 on the diagram. Gene.

I located the defrost timer in my old refrigerator that went out (newer than the one I bought though) and turned it until it clicked, turned it a little further and it clicked sooner so Im assuming the short part of the rotation is the defrost cycle. The fan at back of freezer stopped in this portion but I couldnt hear or detect anything else happening. So light in the fridge fan in the freezer is all thats operating. What could I check next before I put it out for salvage? Im glad I found this site. If I can fix my frigidaire Im giving the one I just bought to anyone who will come take it away.

ok heres what I checked so far on frigidaire f44n21
Checked cold control for continuity and its good so checked from cold control to each of the three other wires on the defrost timer. It conducts through to the red and white wires going to the fan in the freezer section.Im assuming the fourth connection is to the defrost heater. So all seems good there. I pulled up the little apron in back at the bottom to take a look at the compressor itself.Pulled of what I assume is the start capacitor then pulled off the relay.I found the schematic back there too :) So the relay has a rattle in it I didnt shake it hard but it has something rolling around inside of it.I took a smell and it smells burned too. The schematic refers to it as a ptc relay with start capacitor. Is it worth a try to change it and hope it doesnt just burn up? Does it disconnect at the upper end at the outside of the freezer section under the metal box cover?
Now my boyfriend is upset that I want to try to save my better refrigerator but Im used to that :)

Gene. It just quit running overnight. Woke up it was hot inside all the food was going bad. There was a bad smell but I think it was the food.

Sounds like the starter is the culprit and hopefully it'll solve the problem. There is a small chance for the compressor to be bad as well but it is worth to give it a try. - The start device Part number: AP2114986
