Took inside back panel off, defrosted coils, put back together again. There was ice forming on back of frige wall, but not keeping food cold. Please let us know what causes that...freezer is working fine. thanks...wasmis Unit is more than 10 years old...like...20 or so

Hey mines doing the same thing...and its why I got on here!
In my past experiences with HVAC this means its getting low on refrigerent.
Good thing is older Subs are built with a tap valve installed. I think they use R22 but I will look to see for sure. I plan to check mine and if any one who knows what LBS it should read at please let me/us know.
Also FYI your freezer and fridge each has its own compressor...that's the beauty of a subzero .

Thank you for your reply. It was the refrigerant. It is R12 also....which we cannot get. The coils behind (the back panel inside the frige was taken off ) had ice on it...a sign of leakage...was in more than one place.

We had to replace the coil as it was in bad shape...from the 70's! Quite costly, but better than $7000 for a frige!

You can use r-414b to replace r12. Evaporator coil in the fridge is a common place of a leak.
