Hi,

Did a dumb thing when replacing the 3-prong power cord with a 4-prong. I attached the black wire on the 4-prong to the ground screw on the dryer and the green wire on the 4-prong to the black screw.

This seems to have shorted out something (no fuses blown in the house) in the dryer as it won't start. I replaced the 4-prong power cord with another one to no avail.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Ok first check out the two pics below.
One is three connection, the other is four.
Make sure that you have disconnected the
ground strap from the center terminal if going
with a four connection cord.

As far as the dryer not starting is concerned
(even though the breaker wasn’t tripped) you
need to start by checking the voltage at the dryer
cord connections to make sure that all voltage is present.
Do you have a meter- and know how to check for
AC voltage?

Thanks for such a speedy response and the great pics. I hooked up the wires like you suggested, but still now power.

I don't know how to check the voltage, but I do have a meter.

Thanks for your help!

Is the meter analog (with a needle) or a digital?
Whats the make and model of the meter? If Radio Shack whats the
catalog number?
Since you dont know how to check for voltage this info will
assist me in helping you to properly set the meter.
Thanks

Sorry for the very slow response.

I can't find the meter. It is probably easier for me to run to the store and buy a cheap one.

Do you have any recommendations?

Pay attention to what type of battery it takes.
Try to get one that runs on at least a 9 volt battery.

Got a GB Instruments (GDT-11) 5-function 18-range meter.

Thanks again for all your help.
