Dishwasher gets stuck at 42 (normal wash) and 76 (pots and pans). Thought it was heater problem (water not hot enough and heating element was all gray). Replaced heating element, but problem still persists. Not sure if this is a control panel dis-function or something else. Works fine other wise. I just "cancel/drain" when it is stuck and then do a "quick rinse". This just requires my being in the kitchen to catch it. Thank-you.

Have you tried anything to fix? I'm not sure if this is a motor problem or a control panel problem. Also, this model is not made anymore, so any parts sent out are parts that are compatible with the model from other model types. I'm not sure whether to replace the dishwasher or continue to try to fix with possible compatible parts.

I have the same problem with my Kenmore 665.1659200 dishwasher.
To keep it working when stuck at 76 minutes and at 42 minutes, I put it into diagnostics mode by pressing "HI TEMP SCRUB" , "AIR DRY" , "HI TEMP SCRUB" , "AIR DRY". And then I press the "ANTI BACTERIAL" or "POTS PANS" button which causes the machine to skip to the next part of the cycle.
Prior to encountering this problem, my dishwasher emitted an electrical burning smell which I have traced to the thermal fuse inside the front control panel. The fuse still works, but is visibly charred from an overheat event. I suspect that the problem may be the heating element or thermistor or motor.
Have you found a resolution to this problem?
