I have a 1989 vintage Maytag Dishwasher. For some time now, the soap dispenser door would not open on its own. Therefore, we open the door to the dishwasher and manually open the door to the dispenser. We have done it that way for sometime without issue. Tonight, the dishwasher started up normally but after we opened the door to release the soap and closed the dishwaser door, the unit quit working. We can hear the motor hum and watch the timer advance as it should through each cycle but nothing happens during any of the cycles (except for the humming of the motor). Since the wash cycle was initiated at the time, water is still in the unit. Any help you can offer would be appreciated. Thanks.

Most likely the problem is a bad pump and/or motor. For more accurate advise we need the complete model number of the dishwasher.

Gene,
Thanks for the reply. The Model # is WU202. Depending on the extent of the problem as you see it, I am also wondering if I should consider replacing this unit and credit it with a "job well done"?
