Rank: Member Groups: Registered Joined: 4/13/2010(UTC) Posts: 3		I have an amana dryer--ale643raw--I have replaced the belt, cleaned it from top to bottom, made sure that no lint is in the machine or in the exhaust vent, replaced the drum rollers--one was bad--and I am at my wits end. This dryer starts with no problem, makes a little noise, but it it shuts off in about ten - fifteen minutes. Then, in just a few minutes, it starts back and repeats the process. What should I check next? Any help is appreciated. In the present economy, I need to fix this dryer instead of buy a new one.

It sounds like the motor is overheating, tripping it's internal thermal protect and then restarting once the thermal protect resets. It should not restart on it's own as the motor's centrifugal switch should have deactivated, removing power from the motor. You did not say if the unit starts up without pushing the PUSH TO START button. If it does I would suspect the switch contacts are welded together. Also you you have a second problem which is causing the motor to overheat.

This morning i pulled the bottom panel off and it appeared that the noise was comming from the fan. Is that a possibility.?

That would explain why the motor is overheating. Try turning the drum by hand. Should turn fairly easily. If not could be the drum is jammed for some reason. You may want to try this on a couple other dryers to get a feel for it. If it is difficult to turn run your fingers around the back and front of the tub to machine seal. To see if something has jammed between the tub and frame (bra wires are famous for this). Be careful in case the object is something sharp. If nothing is jammed in there you will have to open it up and find the cause.

Rank: Member Groups: Registered Joined: 4/13/2010(UTC) Posts: 3		I took dryer apart, re-cleaned it, put new guides on front checked drum rollers and replaced belt pulley. It ran for about ten minutes--appeared as if noise was coming from front area- and shut off. Waited about three minutes hit start and it did the same thing. Noise sounds like a bad bearing. I guess it's time for a new motor unless anyone else has a different idea?
