I have a friend with a Kenmore Elite freezer that is not defrosting. I checked the resistance of the heater and it is about 30 Ohms. I switched out the bi-metal, defrost switch and after about one week it is frosed up again. I assume that i need to change out the electronic control board next. On older models it was easy to check the defrost timer, how can someone do this on an electronic control board?

You've pretty much already tested the entire defrost system. since the heater ohms out, and you've replaced the correct? bi metal thermostat, other than a rare wiring problem, or the heater was not replaced correctly, that adaptive defrost control is going to be your friends problem.
