I have a Maytag Neptune washer model # MAH5500BWW purchased around 2001. It stopped spinning last week and after a hasty once-over I ordered and installed a motor/control conversion kit. This did not solve the problem. The unit makes a loud "buzzing" type of noise but the drum does not turn. The door lock light comes on for a few seconds but then goes out and the door can be opened even while it's trying to go into spin. While testing the machine I had the top raised and the switch on the left hand side of the door lock assembly (the one with the solenoid/plunger) actuated and the door lock light came on very briefly but then the plunger disengaged and the door lock light went out. At one point there was also an intermittent clicking sound from the control panel area. The drive belt is in good condition and the drum turns freely by hand. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Check the model and serial tag for a series number.

Thank you

Thank you.

It sounds like I may have similar symptoms...did you ever solve your problem?

Check the wiring and L/S lock assembly. ( the bleach side) Spilt bleach corrodes the wiring / lock assembly over time and may be part of your problem. This is all tucked under the main lid housing.:)
