Got this from someone. Brought it home and waited 2 days before plugging in. It does not get cold although fans are running. Took the back panel off and I see 2 wires that have been cut at the compressor area. I noticed that on the left side of the compressor there are a couple of connections on the compressor. I'm thinking that these are the connections that these wires should go to? I don't see any other electrical connection to the compressor. One is a single lug possibly a ground and the other looks like there would be a connector with 3 or 4 lugs on the compressor itself. As one wire has the female part that can plug into the lug on the compressor and the other wire has been cut I'm thinking the 2-4 prong connector was attached but cut off by a service person so no one would have the problem or something? I can't find a wiring diagram for this area of the fridge so I am not sure what I should be seeing, nor am I sure that because the wires are cut, if this does mean that the compressor is bad or not. Service guy I called said the compressor costs about $500.00 plus install. I find the compressor on-line for just under $200.00.

I could order and replace the compressor myself and then I have to have freon done by a service tech?

Any help for my situation would really be appreciated. Hate to throw the fridge out as it is a nice one. Just can't really figure out why the wires or connectors were cut. I can send pics if there is anyone out there that can help me. I am in the western suburbs of Chicago. Thanks.

Thanks for your posting, it did help me locate a first step in the issue.

It seems that the P.T.C. starter with run capacitor has been completely removed. All that remains is the blue and red wires that had been taped off.

I am not sure why anyone would do this. Any ideas?

I imagine my second step would be to order this part, plug it in and see what happens. If I can figure out which terminals to test on the compressor to see if it shorted or not, I will try that first. Would I just be looking for continuity across the terminales? Any clue which terminals? Possibly the compressor is shorted so a service tech took the starter/run capacitor out of the circuit?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as there certainly is a big difference in the two parts, not to mention the cost to have the compressor installed, etc. Thanks in advance, Joe.
