I just replaced a new compressor start device on my fridge because it wasnt getting cold, and it is getting cold now with the new switch , but after 15 minutes of being on my compressor is getting hot. Is that normal ? :confused:

Just checked compressor again and it is still pretty hot, don't know if it is supposed to be hot or not .:confused:

If it is too hot to touch or hold your hand on then it is too hot and you have a problem. If it is running too hot then the compressors thermal overload should shut the compressor off. I would check that the condenser/compressor fan is running and that the condenser coils are clean. I would not panic till after the unit has run for 24 hours re: it may be running extra long in order to bring the units temperature down. If it then seems to run constantly or be on just about all the time you may have a freon problem. Pull the evaporator coil cover and check them for the frost pattern. If it is splotchy or just in one area (usually where the freon enters the coils) then you are probably low on freon. Of course you have to do this after the unit has run for a few hours as they should be clear of frost just after a defrost cycle. |
