The drum is turning, but I don't dare leave it running long enough to see if it heats. After just a couple of seconds, you can clearly smell an electrical smell.

The best I can describe the sound is a blender that's not properly attached at the base, it make a very loud whirling sound.

Any ideas?

It's too late tonight, but tomorrow after work, I will take the back off to see if anything is out of place. My guess is, one (or more) of the rollers has broken ... either that or the motor is dying.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Sounds like the blower wheel might be spinning on the motor shaft.

Well, I'm not sure what I did, but it's working properly now. I took off the front of the dryer and cleaned out about $2 in change, a dozen "stays" from my dress shirts, and a couple of screws that the assembly guys must have dropped.

I then spun the drum by hand a couple of times and everything appeared to be working properly (no friction or sounds). I put it back together, and started it up to hear the sound for a second and then a bunch of stuff blew through the air duct and then the sound went away.

I'm guessing something was on the motor and was sucked out?

At any rate, it works ... thanks for your help!
