My wife has had sporadic issues with the washer filling with water to the selected load size, but agitator does not turn. After a while, (sorry i don't have the exact time that passes) the water drains out and then it starts to fill again. She said that it ran for over 2 hours doing that before she realized what was going on. I made the washer duplicate the problem today with no clothes in the machine. I can turn the cycle knob to drain and spin and it does both fine, it just won't agitate when the tub is full of water. I can hear the timer running and the only noise i have ever noticed that it makes is what sounds like a belt squeak that lasts for about 5 seconds when it first goes into drain and spin cycle. I would greatly appreciate any help, thanks. Maytag

I have set the machine down on its front so that i could get a better view of the mechanisms. I spun the belt around a few times and noticed that there were 2 pieces, (i can't figue out what they are using the schematics that are avialble on this site. But on the "Drive Parts schematic" it attaches to part number 12. They slide back and forth and seem to be attached to the basket). SO anyway, i moved the belt, they in turn moved and while sitting on its front and turned the control knob to the cycle and NOW the agitator works. Any help as to what i call these parts and if they are the cause of my issues? thanks mac

Now the machine will agitage, spin and drain. But the new problem is that it fills to the selected level, then starts to agitate, but water continues to flows in and i am pretty sure that it is continuing to drain at the same time. any ideas?

well, if its filling even after its unplugged then you definitely need to replace the water valve inside the washer. i would replace the water valve and see if that fixes all your problems, it will definitely fix the problem of filling when unplugged.
