Our Amana dryer has been making alont of noise as it spins. Now it has stopped spinning and just makes a noise when you try to start it. The motor or relay seems to be burnt out. If you try to start it several times you smell and burnt smell. Seems like alot of work to replace the motor. (This unit is 10 years old) Is it worth repairing or should we buy a new one. Please help.

If the drum will turn easily then it probably is the motor.

If you enjoy fixing things and want to learn how to take it apart and work on it, and want to save the cost of a new machine (albeit at the somewhat hefty price of parts) then the time and effort is worth it.

If on the other hand you would rather watch the NHL, then I would say go for a new one.

Here is a service manual if you decide to give it a go.
