My machine is full of water and clothes - when I turn the dial to spin cycle - it just makes a humming sound and stops. Unplugging and replugging in the unit - the unit continues to do the same thing. Governing the age of the unit ... thinking of getting some else here - 5 years old ... but is there an easy fix to this problem ? any advisement appreciated.

This machine should have plenty of life left in it, and most repairs are very easy but we need more info.

Specifically, does it agitate and/or drain. If it will not agitate, nor drain when the dial is set for spin you probably have something jamming the pump.

Pull off the pump, check it out and get the obstruction out of replace it.

This site will show you how to remove the cabinet and the pump for checking.

If it will drain, but not agitate or spin the coupling may be the problem.

This site will show you how to deal with that also.

Thanks very much for the response - the machine will neither drain nor agitate ... so I will check the pump - I talked to someone stupidly (likely
looking for a sale) at an actual appliance store - not the likes of Sears, Lowes or any of these wannabees - who told me it was likely the gear box !! - I had read somewhere that it could be the pump - so I have nothing to lose here - I 'll take a look at this tomorrow. Thanks !!

Great, just so you know all that water is going to come out when you take off the pump so be prepared.

It could still be the motor or transmission but let's hope it is something simple like the pump or coupling jammed.

Found a socking sock stuck in the pump - thanks very much for the tip - it is now working - the hum was likely from the motor as it could not turn .... big thank you !!

Thanks for the tip also about watching for a ton of water ... upon pump disconnection - I emptied it
yesterday with a wet-dry vac as it was full of water - it would have been
swim city otherwise !! :) Big thanks !

That's great, pulled one out of pump just this week myself.

Thanks for the update, glad you got fixed and good luck going forward.
