Hi,
I have a whirlpool mod Le9680xwn1 electric dryer, not heating, verified 220 at plug, checked overload and misc high limit switches, power is being transferred through each , checked timer and power there too, then checked leads of element, both leads show 120, pulled leads from element and resistance showed .010 at 2K, think this is a bad element?
Appreciate the advice .I am a machinist not so good at at applicance repair,
Dave

check for continuity on the heating element - if it has continuity the element is ok. if it does not then you'll need a new element.

Here are your parts Replacement parts for WHIRLPOOL LE9680XWN1 | AppliancePartsPros.comI have a whirlpool mod electric dryer, not heating, verified 220 at plug, Also check that you have 220 at the units terminal strip. Note check that the wires at the terminal strip are OK. checked overload and misc high limit switches, power is being transferred through each , checked timer and power there too, then checked leads of element, both leads show 120, I am assuming the 120 volts was to the frame/Neutral and not to L1 or L2. Trying to measure voltage using the Neutral as a reference point can be confusing when troubleshooting the heater circuit as you do not know if you are seeing L1 or L2 voltage. If you check across the heater connections you should see 240 volts. Best to unplug the unit and use resistance for heater, thermostats and fuses. pulled leads from element and resistance showed .010 at 2K, think this is a bad element? Looks OK but I would use a more sensitive scale: re 200 ohms. Also be sure to disconnect one side of any device you are measuring for resistance, this ensures that you do not read an alternate/parallel circuit path. I could not find a wiring diagram for your specific unit but it is probably close to the following as far as the heater circuit http://www.servicematters.com/docs/wiring/Wiring%20Sheet%20-%203391330.pdf |
