are washer motors for Kenmore 80 series (mine) and Kenmore 70 series (friend) interchangeable?

My friend has an extra motor from her machine and is offering it to me, but we want to know if it would work in my machine.

Use the model numbers of the washer to look up the motor for each model and see if they are the same. If it calls for the same part number they should be interchangeable. Even if they are not the same part number, they still might work. Some of these motors are the same even with different part numbes.

Look at the connections to see if they are the same and also see if they are both the same number of speeds.

Before you do anything, why don't you tell us what your machine's problem is and why you want to change out the motor?

My washer spins but will not drain. Prior to the break-down, it was making a noise somewhat like clicking-whirring before going into spins/drains between wash and rinse.

My brother was using the machine when it died, I almost want to turn it on and try an empty load to actually see what it does.

My brother took the back off and checked several things (he had a list from online research). He eventually told me he thought it was the motor.

My research was indicating a plastic coupler might have worn down.

Well I am confused on several accounts.

You do not service this machine from the back. Front cabinet comes off and you service it that way.

If the machine is spinning the motor is okay. If it is not draining the problem is an obstruction in the drain lines or a problem with the pump.

Use this site to take off the cabinet and check it out.

:o I mis-spoke. The washer drains but does not spin. Does this change your opinion? I have not yet taken the cabinet off but plan to do so soon.

If it agitates but does not spin and the motor is operating try replacing the clutch. If it does not agitate or spin, but drains, the likely problem is your coupling which you can check after you take off the cabinet, pump and motor.

Either way there is nothing yet to suggest a new motor, but that time may come.
