I have a Kenmore bottom freezer and I just started hearing a loud buzzing sound that lasts for about 5 seconds and then I hear a click and the noise goes away. This happens about every 10-15 Minutes. The noise is coming from the back of the freezer very close to where the freezer meets the floor.
The noise started yesterday and today I noticed that everything in my freezer melted and I've also notice that the refrigerator/freezer is constantly running. After reading other posts on this page I'm thinking that my rely needs to be replaced and I'm just looking for a second opinion from someone who understands how these things work. I'd like to make the repair myself.

For anyone reading this with a similar problem; it turned out to be either the relay or the capacitor, I don't know which one because I replaced them both. My refrigerator is working fine now, and the parts only cost $44.64 and they came with a lifetime warranty!

Hi, I have the exact same fridge, and the same thing just started happening this week. How difficult was it to replace it? Would you mind confirming the part number you bought? Was it the overload/relay w/ capacitor (C8931612 or 67005560)?

I had never done anything more than open a refrigerator door before I replaced these parts. It was super easy, unscrew the back panel (near the floor), the relay and the capacitor are attached to the compressor (you will know them when you see them, they are the only parts on or near the compressor that look like they are easily removed), they pull right off, slide the new one in and that is all there is to it. Took me less than five minutes.
The part number was 67005560, I paid $44.64 - (1st source servall) 713-785-901, I believe they are nationwide, but not sure.

Thanks -- that helps. Looks like my compressor's shot. Even after replacing the relay and connecting the wires it still buzzes and clicks. Rats. Thanks again.
