My GE side by side stops working few days ago, I called for serivce and the tech replaced the Motherboard, The freezer start cooling, but the ref. didn't. I called service guy again and this time he said that it might be the damper control and it needs to be replaced and I am still waiting for his Quote on the price to replace the damper control becase he said that its door is not funtioning wrong.I have left the damper door open by using a toothpick for almost 10 hours, the ref. is little bit cold, but not like before. I can feel cold air is blowing from the damper control.I did open the damper door all the way to make sure that it is really damper control that is faulty part here or do I need to change other parts too such as eva. fan and etc. Any suggestion!!!! Thanks. Shawn

I bought the damper control from you guys and reaplaced it , but still the frig. doesn't cool down when it was working fine before, I would say that it cools down to half of the temp. that when it was working.
Do I need to change any other part? or check something to see if .....?

Thanks. Shawn

You said that you could feel cold air entering the fresh food side when you held the damper open so I am assuming that the evaporator motor is running.

I would check the temperature in the freezer, it should be around 0 degrees F.

Check to see if the new damper is open.
If not then your problem is elsewhere.

Make sure that nothing is blocking the air return between the freezer and fresh food sections.

PS: I am not an AppliancePartsPros employee.
I cannot get tech info on GE's, they like to keep it a secret.
But did find this manual which may help even though the controls are different,

If your freezer temperature is zero or below, I would get a ohm meter, unplug refrigerator and check the fresh food, and refrigerator thermisters per my comments in the sticky above (GE refrigerator GS &PS) models
I got these schematics a few years ago and now they are not available.
If no meter, just replace the thermisters AP3185407, rather cheap; item241 in the parts breakdown.

I ordered the thermisters AP3185407(item241) few days ago, waiting to arrive. I have GE side by side freezer/frig with Model number GSS25KGMDBB and the serial number is VD235810 .where does it go? from front or do I need to open the back panel?
Thanks for your help

Look at your parts breakdown for location, I think one is behind the damper cover and another behind the crisper drawer on the bottom.

When I replaced the control damper one came with damper attached to it already so I didn't need to replace the unit here.To replace the one under the crisper drwawer, I can not find it to replace it. when I look at the breakdown of the unit , it shows that it goes between the freezer and frig wall in the middle, but don't know how to access it or were it exactly located.at the bottom drawer of the frig, there is a adjuster that I can control if how much air can flow from the freezer to frig( There is a whole to the size of the penny).Maybe this unit only requires one temp. sensor that attached to the control damper.I can feel that air is flowing from the damper and bottom hole to the frig from freezer, but the frig still not cold as it used to be and If I put milk in there it will be rotten in couple of days and inside feel little warm too. So I am not sure what else I can do to fix this?

Thanks for your help.

Looks like you only have one thermister in the fridg section. Did you measure the freezer temperature?

I haven't measured the temp in freezer yet, but it looks like the freezer works fine , all the food in there are frozen just like before and the temp. adjuster is set to 5 for both freezer and frig.

I will measure it and let you know. I need to stop by How depot and buy a thermameter.

Thanks,

Shawn

Both Temperature Adjuster set to 5 and the Freezer is -10 degree and Frig is 56 degree.

What else should I check or repair to bring down the frig temp. to less than 40 degree?

Please let me know. It has been long time we have been without our main frig in the kitchen.

Thanks,

Shawn
