 This is a Frigidiare electric dryer. Machine was making a noisy vibration. Concluded that a bearing in the motor was failing thus causing the vibration.

I disassembled the dryer and removed the motor with the blower unit attached.

I was unable to get the blower fan off the shaft. Tried every angle possible but to no avail  . Ordered both a new motor and blower unit from APP.com. and now have both in hand for reinstallation.

Question: What is the best way to reinstall the motor and blower? Should I attach the fan and blower unit to the motor and install both as a unit or should I install the motor and then attach the blower unit? I do not have a service manual for this electric dryer.

Also, should I put some anti-sieze on the motor shaft threads before attaching the blower fan to the motor shaft? About how much torque should be applied when attaching the fan?

Any assistance is greatly appreciatetd.

Thanks,
Glenn

Hi Glenn

Everyone has problems with this machine and the blower. I think you should replace the motor first, then put on the blower. This service manual will help.

I would check out the rear drum bearing while you have it open, and you might want to go ahead and replace it, the belt and the pully. If you then clean things out, particularly the grid and chute in the door you should be all set for a long time.

Thank you for the information and manual.
The first thing I did was replace the idler pulley. That did not stop the vibration. Then I replaced the drum bearing. That helped some but did not totally stop the vibration thus determining the motor was failing.
I have a new belt and tomorrow I am going to put it all back together and hope it is cured. I did clean out the grid and chute in the door which had a lot of lint in it. I cleaned all the other areas of lint and dirt so I will just have to deal with the reinstallation.

How tight should the blower fan be on the motor shaft? Should I put some anti-sieze on before installing the fan on the shaft?

This may be in the manual you kindly sent but have not read it yet (currently at work). Will read it tonight.

Thanks again for the guidance.
Glenn:)

I don't think you need to put anything on it, and just hand tighten it medium should do the trick.

Sounds like you are already doing everything right, so it should be fixed. The other problem could be a drum out of round, but that is unlikely.

Good luck.

Thanks again for the information and manual. Saturday-Read over the manual for the motor and blower and took your advice and installed the motor first then the blower.
Checked everything and cleaned anywhere there was any remaining dirt or lint. Back of the drum out from around the bearing had a lot of lint buildup. Put on a new belt.
Had a little trouble getting the drum properly seated back into the dryer but it finally dropped all the way down.
Then reattached the front and put the connection wires back on the door switch and light.
Reinstalled the idler pully, closed up the back panel, plugged it in and held my breath....it started up so effortlessly at first I had to listen for it running.
Heated it up good for a few minutes.
My daughter had some towels washed so gave it the big test with a load of wet towels. Ran 50 minutes and dried them fine.
Sure happy this worked out so well.
Thanks again for the help.
Glenn:)

Well great, nice going. Getting the drum back in is a little tricky because you cannot see if it is in, and sometimes it sounds like it dropped in when it did not. A lot of people forget to clean out the back of the drum where lint gets in, (and we forget to tell them because it's pretty much second nature to us) so its good that you did that.

Glad you got it fixed and thanks for the update.
