You need to determine a couple of things

1. Is the motor turning, and is the pump in anyway hung up.

2. Where is the noise coming from.

Use this service manual to check things out.

and here is a tech bulletin on a new pump design.

yes motor turns, pump does not apear to be hung up,spins on high speed and screams noise apears to be emanating from the bearing or brake assembly but cant be sure as still have not gotten agitator off, does this pry off or unscrew, if so which direction as it appears to be seized onto shaft, with evrything plastic am wary of applying too much force for fear of breakage. thanks for your response.

If you look at an exploded view of your machine by clicking on the model number, or looking at secton 4 in the service manual you will see that the agitator is heldon by a single screw. Once this is removed the agitator will lift up, but gunk can make this hard. Also you have to be careful because when you are pulling on it the agitator can suddenly come off and smack you in the face.

Sounds like your brake assembly, or bearings are the problem but you will have to dive into the machine with special tools to diagnose and replace parts. You may want to consider a replacement.
