This side by side refrigerator/freezer quit working last week. We replaced the start device combination unit(part#220474) but it still doesn't work. The compressor will not run. What part is broken?

If nothing working, locate the defrost control in the control panel and turn the shaft inside the bottom of the control panel. If it now works, replace the defrost timer. Part # 482493 available on this parts site.

Here is the wiring diagram http://www.servicematters.com/docs/wiring/Wiring%20Sheet%20-%202255373.pdfIs your condenser fan running? It is wired in parallel with the compressor. If it is running then your main thermostat and defrost timer are OK. Check the compressor with a meter just to ensure that a winding has not burned out. Could also check at the compressor to ensure that it is getting power, could be a broken wire or bad connection somewhere. The below should help Refrigerator Repair Guide: How To Fix a Refrigerator - ACME HOW TO.comNote that this does not rule out a bad compressor but will allow you to confirm if you have a bad winding and then at least you know that the compressor needs replacing or the unit is not worth fixing.. Also if the fan is not running check your main thermostat, could be it is not closing. |
