our frigidaire dryer(def-w-4) or washer(wl-w-1) is making a load sqeaking sound wich sounds similiar to a car belt going bad is this something wich the average guy like me can fix? or is this another problem other than a belt.

Which appliance is making a wrong noise: the dryer or the washer?
In order to provide the most accurate advise I need the complete and valid model number of the unit.

I'm having the same problem. I have a Maytag DRYER mod. #LDE9314ACE, s/n 13889580MQ. How do you open the cabinet up?

Remove two screws on the bottom of the front panel. Grab the front panel from the bottom and pull it forward and up to release it from the top fasteners. Remove the wires from the door switch (draw a picture for yourself to remember how to install them back) and put the front panel aside. Remove the four screws holding the tumbler front assembly and check the drum support bearings (#8 on the tumbler parts break down diagram). Remove the access cover on the back of the dryer. Draw a picture of the belt goes around the motor and the idler pulleys for proper assembling later. Remove the belt. Remove the tumbler. Check the drum support rollers and the idler pulley. Lubricate them or replace if needed. - The part number for the drum support bearing kit (rivets are included) is AP4037304 - The part number for the drum support roller is AP204721 - The part number for the idler pulley is AP3970789 - The part number for the belt is AP3988821 Here are the break down diagrams for the Maytag dryer Model LDE9314ACEGene.

I had this problem once with a Kenmore dryer. It was the idler pulley that holds the tension on the drum drive belt. The pulley was worn out due to being dry for so long. I replaced the pulley and that corrected the problem. Also the drum support rollers may become noisy too either from wear or build-up of material on the surface of the rollers and the contact area on the drum. Cleaning of the rollers and the drum surface wil quiet down everything a lot.
