Hello All,
I have a GE SpaceMaker 1800XL microwave model #JVM1851WH02 that doesn't want to heat anything.
A couple weeks ago I noticed that things I tried to heat up didn't heat up as much as they have in the past. Today something made a little pop sound and now nothing heats up and the microwave makes more of a humming noise. The keypad, lights, turntable, etc. all still work fine.
I unmounted the microwave from the wall and opened it up. I discharged the cap and checked the high voltage diode. It is only reading about 11 ohms and is open both ways. So, that needs to be replaced but I have read on this forum and some others that the magnetron may be the real problem. If I replace the diode it may go bad again because of the magnetron?
How do I test the magnetron to see if it is working properly?
If I have to replace the diode and the magnetron I am looking at about $160...might as well buy a new microwave. What a shame...
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
