Problem: Handle pulling away from refrigerator door. GE side-by-side model, purchased Jan 1999. In the past few days the handle has begun to pull away from the door. It appears that the rivets or what ever attaches the handle have broken. The rest of the handle trim above and below the handle seem to be holding the handle in place, as it springs back when released. How does one replace or repair the handle? Thanks, David White Chicago

The bottom half of the handle, about level with or below ice/water dispenser in freezer door, will pull down wards, and pull off. Tug it down wards and then you will see a screw to take off top piece. remove screw and push the upper piece up, and it will slide off.
It will have star screws in there, maybe tighten them up, or replace.

John, Thank you for the info. I'll try tomorrow (it 9 PM in Chicago). Do you know if there are replacement parts or which part it should be? When I pulled on the handle and it moved away from the door, it appears that the screw or rivet or whatever the attaching device is was broken.
