I have a whirlpool ed25pexht02,that the compressor is very hot,fan is running and compressor starter just makes a clicking type noise for 5-7 seconds then gets quite. I belive the starter is bad, any ideas?

Remove the cover on the back of the fridge and look at the compressor start device (on the left side of the compressor). If it looks like a white cube - remove it and shake it. If it makes a rustling sound then the start device is bad. Whirlpool redesign this part and it looks different but it comes with the complete installation instructions. - The part number for the star device kit is AP3873993 Here are the break down diagrams for the Whirlpool refrigerator Model ED25PEXHT02Gene.

Hi Gene, It did rattle, and I just replaced it.... the fan ran for about 45 seconds and the compressor started to get cold, then the whole system just seemed to shut down, the lights work ok, but the fan isn't even kicking on now... any ideas, or is it just junk?

most likly just went into defrost mode

Thanks for all the help guys, and it must have went into defrost mode,because this am the freezer was at 0 deg and the fridge was a cool 33 deg. I help on yahoo answers about cars, if you have any questions, you can hit me there...... Thanks again, tdot:)
