I was able to pull up the agitator and now I need to know how to find out if the coupler isn't working. It spins freely so is that the problem of my agitator not working? Everything else seems to work OK.

Fill up the washer and check if the agitator coupler is moving back and forth, if not, and the motor is running, you probably have a bad tranny.

GE WJXR2080T5WW agitator coupler spins freely so does this indicate the transmission is damaged?

Pull the bolt off the coupler and see if the splines are stripped out.
