In October of 2007 Started to have problems. The unit is about 3 yrs old.

The evaporator is clear, no frost. However the condensate freezes and does not drain. The drain is clear.

I replaced the defrost terminator. Still didn't work.

I wrapped an aluminum wire around the cal-rod. Routed the wire down the condensate drain. Did not fix it either.

What defrosts the evaporator? - the cal-rod or is there a 'hot gas' defrost?

I'm at a loss of what to do next!

If there is no frost on the evaporator, the defrost terminator stays open and there is no power to the defrost heater.

Looks like the sealed system is low on Freon, that's why it's no frost on the evaporator.

If the unit is about 3 years old, the sealed system should be under the manufacturer warranty and you have to call Viking for service.

Gene.
