I am not an appliance repair pro but I do tackle an appliance repair project every so often just for the experience. I have a person who has a whirlpool electric dryer. When the dryer operates he states that it makes a very loud screeching sound while the dryer is on. He says it heats and dries the clothes properly, but the screeching sound is quite loud.
I don't know enough about dryers to diagnose or troubleshoot this problem. I suspect the drum belt? Or a drum wheel?? Also, how does one access the interior of the cabinet, which panel gets removed first and how (i.e. use a screwdriver to pry the panel from the frame???).
Thanks, all help is appreciated. Rich

You will want to change out the belt, tension pulley and rear rollers.
To do this you take out the lint filter and the two screws under the lint filter lid. The top will now flip up by inserting a screw driver or putty knife in the gap between the top and front near the edges and prying up.
You can now take off the front, it is held by two screws, and be sure to unhook the door switch wires, marking if you need to how they go. Reach in and release the belt, take out the drum, do the work and put it back together.
Be sure and take this opportunity to thoroughly clean it out, including the blower and lint chute.

I had the same problem with my dryer - I finally traced it to the pully assembly on the motor mount assembly. Thought it had to be replaced but all it really needed was the screw on the motor mount assembly to be tightened - I also checked to maker sure all the felt around the tub was not the culprit.
