Makes a noise when the agitator is washing. The noise is not constant but seems to be only when the agitator is going in one direction. The noise is not present on spin and is also not present when no clothes are in tub. It does a good job of washing the clothes but the noise seems to be getting worse. Is there any adjustment for the agitator ?

Is the noise a squeaking/screeching noise? squeak....squeak....squeak

No it is more of a scraping or ratechting noise. With a full tuib of water and no clothes it does not make this noise. I fact I tried to hold the agitator back and could not get it to make the noise. It is only when clothes are in the tub and it doesn't matter if it is a small or a large load.

Maytag uses a brake rotor on this unit that is suppose to hold the tub from spinning in agitation. When the brake rotor starts going pad it slips. The brake rotor can be LIGHTLY greased for a temporary fix until it can be replaced.
There is a spring that needs to be removed to get the brake rotor out. This is under high tension and requires a specific tool to be removed. If you do not have access to this spring compressor tool do not attempt repair. Grease can be applied without removing the brake rotor.

You can remove the front panel on this unit and verify no leaking tub seal is puting water on the brake housing. If ok, I would loosten the screws on the brake housing and sqirt some oil on the brake with a zoom spout oiler.
Not too familiar with this one and assume you can get to the brake housing screws, if not, you can squirt some WD-40 in there.
