Our dryer has recently started to squeak, and seems to be getting worse. It's rotational and appears to be coming from the back (I believe). What are my options other than to buy a new dryer?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The rear bearing on these machines fails regularly. It is neither an expensive repair nor a difficult one.

Here is the part.

Part number: AP2619300
Part number: AP2619300

To open it up you will take out the screws in the upper door jam that hold the top on. Once the top is off you can take off the front by taking out the screws that hold it on. Remove the door switch wires, marking how they go. With the front off, release the belt and take out the drum. You are now ready to replace the parts.

Be sure to clean out the inside while you have it apart, particularly the blower and internal vent.

Well, we haven't run a full cycle with clothes yet, but that bearing was most definitely fried! Thank you very much, sidfink43!! Your help is greatly appreciated!

Super, glad you got it fixed (it was not quite as easy as I made it sound) and thanks for the update.

No, it was a bit more involved than I anticipated. Not a lot of space to work on this thing didn't help either. The bearing came with instructions that looked like it was copied a few hundred times making the typing very blurred and pictures incomprehensible. Hard to say how long it took me, maybe close to 2 hours. Thank God I had a set of Torx drivers. I had to use a set of small nuts and bolts with lock washers instead of the "wood" screws they provided to attach the race to the back of the heating element frame. The wood screws would not thread in, I think the holes were a hair too small. Gave the wet/dry vac a workout cleaning inside as you said...definitely needed it. I figure you saved us about $350. Parts & shipping came to $50 and a new decent dryer would probably be about $400. As I'm typing this, it's nice and quiet here in the cellar, as apposed to when I was pleading for help!

Thanks again!

Well, the second time it does get easier, so if any of your friends need help, well, you can give them a 10% discount on your labor.
