Our Kenmore Elite dishwasher is no longer rinsing cleanly. Its leaving fine food particals inside cups and anywhere the water doesn't completely drain from. We presently rinsing the dishes before and after we run them through the washer. It used to wash well without any rinsing.

If the washer fills up the tub till the bottom of the heater, you have a clogged chopper. Pull the upper pump assembly off and pry off the half round pump cover
covering the chopper. If the chopper screen is clogged up, replace the chopper and the check valve next to it. If chopper white end is worn, replace the pump impeller also.

The water fills up to about 1/2" from the bottom of the heating coil. I would have thought that the coil would be covered? What's the 'normal' water level?

I have a kenmore elite DW 665***** it says to change the check valve
last night I opened it up to check the chopper and the check valve the chopper looked good, and I believe the check valve looked good too, I cleaned it and and put some silicone lube on it to soften it up , but it looked relatively good , no one had a check valve in stock yesterday or I would of replaced it, what I am asking is what does one look like when it is bad. it just doesn't seam to have enough pressure to spin the the top sprayers.

Hellllllllllllp

If the chopper screen is not clogged, your check valve is ok, a rarity these go bad. I would look for a bad check valve in the feed to the upper spray arm or a bad impeller on the pump motor.
If the spray pressure is very low, you could have a motor spinning backwards.

this seems funny , I have looked on lots of these forums and they all say replace chopper and check valve (the little black rubber flap) next to the chopper. is there another one I don't know about . cause you say if chopper is clean then check valve is ok. then you talk about another one somewhere to replace

Thanks John

You might have a check valve in the plastic tube feed ing the upper spray arm, just check. The check valve in the base ensures the chopper screen gets backflushed when the drain pump pumps the water out.
