Yep another GE SxS that won't defrost. Trying to diagnose the parts.
Put the clip on thermostat in a cup of 145* hot water and it never did open the circut. Checked the heater and one of the thermister. All seems ok. Put a jumper on the plug from the board on the back of the aplliance. Defrost heater came on but never shut off.
This is a return of an old problem. replaced the board last May, no fix, replaced the thermostat and all was good until this past weekend.
So at what temp does the thermostat cut off the heater or does the board control the defrosting time?
thanks

The limit switch mounted on the evap does not cycle heater.the evap thermister does. if the values of either of the freezer thermisters are out of range the defrost cycle will not work correctly

So the sensors or thermisters control the defrost cycle? The start and end?
Does the mother board have any role in this? The limit switch is the cup shaped device that clips on the evaporator tube, what I call the defrost thermostat?

thanks

After reading through one of the large stickies posted here by Gene. I replaced the 2 sensors I had leftover from last year.
Came back to check the resitance on the plugs at the mother board, as Gene had posted to others, and without checking the freeze first. It was defrosting!!!
So I buttoned it up, plugged it in and the compressor started but no the fan. Waited a while still no fan. Unplugged the fridge and plugged back in and the fan started. Still feel the board is wacky
