When I put the probes of my multimeter to any two probes of the compressor am I supose to get a reading of zero ohms? I'm getting a reading of 8.8 4.9 & 4. is that normal?

Do you have any idea why the compressor would start buzzing and then click off from time to time? I have cleaned the condenser and replaced the overload relay.

Check to ensure the compressor/condenser fan is running.
Is the compressor very hot when it does this?
Could be the compressor is seizing, overheating and tripping out.
When you replaced the relay did it come with a new capacitor (as per Item 12 in Section 6).
Could be the capacitor is leaking current. |

The condenser fan is running and and the new relay did come w a new capacitor. the compressor seems to be a little warmer than usual.

the fridge will run fine if i unplug it for an hour or so then plug it back in. then it will run till its up to the proper temp and then shut off. when I turn the temp up the compressor will click on, buzz for about 10 seconds then click back off. it will keep doing this over and over. is it possible that I have a restriction inside the sealed system?

May be a possibility but if you have a plug it would be there all the time.
More likely the motor is heating up and seizing. Or at least increasing it's mechanical resistance to the point where the start can get it to start. |

Could it be a floating restriction? The fridge is about 5 years old. can it develop a restriction even though the sealed system has never been entered? Should I go ahead and do a sweep charge and replace the compressor?

To me it makes more sense that it is a compressor problem. [COLOR="Blue"]Should I go ahead and do a sweep charge and replace the compressor?[/COLOR] I would get a quote on this as often it makes more sense to replace the unit.
