the washer is not aggitating during wash cycle or spinning during spin cycle - the drum can be turned freely by hand - the belt on the motor to the drum wheel is ok - motor look like new ( no burn marks or smell ). washer keeps shutting off on it's own during these cycles.

Most likely the problem is a bad control board for the motor. It comes as a motor kit, included the installation instructions. - The part number for the motor kit is AP3160609 Here are the break down diagrams for the Maytag laundry center Model MLG2000AWWGene.

Gene if i buy the motor kit is it possible to just hook up the new control board to the old motor? and keep the new motor as a spare.

Maytag made this motor kit because of completely new design of the control board and the motor. The new motor is not interchangeable and you have to replace both parts.
