Our Whirlpool GU1200XTLQ1 dishwasher will not wash or rinse dishes. Water does fill and heat and drain. All cycles operate similarly.Pump spins freely by hand, is not jammed. Control panel lights seem to indicate normal operation.

Upon further testing I found that intermittently when the dishwasher is in the middle of a washing cycle the pump is frozen, apparently when the pump should be pumping to wash. I can manually free up the pump but when I do so it again is frozen after the wash cycle resumes after I reclose the door. Could the pump only be failed and when it gets hot while it should be pumping that is why it becomes frozen. I have tried disconnecting power for over 30 minutes and pushing and holding the "cancel" button, no change.

Once the dishwasher is in wash mode, unplug the wire's from the Motor and check for voltage. Should have 120V unplugged from motor. If you have correct voltage, and it's not running, then replace motor. If you do not have voltage, then your control board is most likely the cause, or a broken wire between motor and control board.
Also, if you don't have 120V @ motor, make sure you have 120V actually supplying the dishwasher. Should see the wire coming into the unit.
If you are not comfortable dealing with electricity, then call a Service tech.

Here your parts Replacement parts for WHIRLPOOL GU1200XTLQ1 Undercounter Dishwasher | AppliancePartsPros.comHere is the tech sheet http://www.servicematters.com/docs/wiring/Tech%20Sheet%20-%208537797.pdfAs techoline said you have to find out if the motor is getting voltage. It does sound like it is as it only locks up when you apply voltage to it. Check the voltage into the unit and then check the voltage at the motor if there is a difference then odds are the motor is pulling down the voltage for some reason. You could remove the motor from the unit, hook it up to a line cord and try it outside the machine. Just be careful when doing this, re: watch out for the electrical connections and make sure to hold the motor securely to a table/bench before plugging it in. Check the winding resistances with a meter , be sure to also check them to the motor's case to ensure neither is grounded out. You will have to disconnect the capacitor when doing this. Check the capacitor with a meter, see the below link. How to Check a Start Capacitor - wikiHowNote this is not ideal as you are not checking it under actual operating voltages but will at least tell you if it is a short or an open. |
