Ok here is what I have.
Makes ice great, but the auger will not operate. Here is what I have done.
1. The front flapper door works fine, as does the in door water. 2. The auger rotates freely. 3. Manualy rotated the motor, gears are fine.
I suspect that a switch is bad, but I dont know which one, or were.
Any ideas would be helpfull...........................

Hi qajeff, Depress the ice release lever on the door and the light switch on the door frame and check for 120V coming to the ice dispenser motor and to the solenoid (it has to be chosen "ice cubes" on the front dispenser). If there is no 120V then the front cover assembly has to be replaced. If there is 120V to the motor and/or to the solenoid - these parts have to be replaced. - The part number for the ice dispenser motor is AP2991305 - The part number for the solenoid is AP3132895 In order to provide the right part number for the front cover assembly I need the color of the panel. Here are the break down diagrams for the Whirlpool refrigerator Model GS5SHGXKT00Gene.

Thanks for the information I will try that, you don't think it could be the micro switch in the front cover assy, or does that operate something else.???

Ok I replaced the solenoid, but still nothing, my question is, should the solenoid move even if the motor was defective??? I hate to spend the money for a motor assy if it could be something else... I assume power to the solenoid would come first, then that would signal the motor to start?? Any Ideas?????

Power to the solenoid comes only when "whole ice cubes" option chosen. Gene.

I depressed the door light switch, activated the ice lever (set to cubes) no voltage to the solenoid, replaced solenoid with same results.

I do not know why you decided to replace the solenoid if the problem most likely is the front cover assembly. Gene.
