I too have a washer (Sears) model 110.20172000 that will spin, but not fast enough to properly extract all the water that it should. This is a coin-op unit in a motel setting so has probably been overloaded a time or two (or a few hundred) in the past seven years. Would it be reasonable to assume that there is a slipping clutch or other component of the drive mechanism that is failing?

Thanx,
dn.

How high the water went up during the flood? If it was more than 3" most likely the motor speed controller is damaged. The part number for the new one is AP3967975 and you can buy it for $99.89. Here you can find the break down diagrams for the Frigidaire washer Model GLTF1040AS0 To replace the motor speed controller you have to pull the washer out of the wall and remove the rear panel. If you look from the back it is on the left side on the bottom.
Good luck.

What I would do first is to check the drain pump and the drain hose from the tub to the pump for any clogs. To get the access to the pump you have to remove the cabinet and do the same steps as you are going to replace the pump. The complete instructions you can find here: Testing and Replacing Water Pump for Whirlpool Washing Machines - RepairAve.com

If the pump and the hose are clear then try to turn the motor shaft manually. If it turns freely at least in one direction then with the pump removed from the motor start the spin cycle (you will need to bypass the lid switch). If it goes slower then usual you have to replace the motor. The part number for the new motor is AP2905451
For your reference here is the parts list for the Kenmore washer model number 110.20172000
Good luck.

Gene: Thank you for the info; I will try those steps. The water does seem to drain ok, but the tub just does not spin as it should.

Hi hope someone can help. I've replaced the timer and that didn't work. The machine will not spin anymore than 3 times but I can see the belt moving.
