I have a Maytag refrigerator with the freezer on the bottom, the discharge line was rubbing on the drip pan and the refrigerant leaked out along with some oil....this is a 134A refrigerator my question is do I need to put some oil back and what type.....also what will the operating pressures be with 134A......the compressor on this refrigerator was replaced about a year or two ago so I'm thinking that the oil lost when it leaked won't be a problem being that it had oil in the system from the first compressor.

If it was running for a period of time after the leak discharged completely, you need a new compressor. If you feel the leak was the repair person's fault, you can try to get some money back.

compressor didn't run too long after the freon leaked out.....so I'm thinking it's still good.......the repair guy just changed the compressor and the leak was right before the condensor so I don't think it was his work....

You will need to call a pro. to get it fixed. At a minimum it will need the leak repaired, a new dryer and vacumm/re-charge.

Thanks richappy for your reply..........I have some HVAC experience but haven't worked on low temp stuff I can repair the leak and change the drier but what will the operating pressures be on a 134A refrigerator system.

I charge per the pressure/temperature charts for R134A. You can put a digital temp device on the low pressure tubing, but I allways just put around 3 -5 pounds gauge on the low side. Without a scale, it's possible to overcharge so just be carefull you don't get the line frozen up to the compressor.
