My dryer started making a very loud clanking noise when turned on. The drum still turns. The noise is present whether or not there are clothes in the dryer. Also the dryer still heats. Any ideas?

Does it sound more like brake shoes scrubbing or a loud screeching? If it the brake shows like on a garbage truck sound that is the front glide. If it s more of a squeal that is the rear drum bearing.

Here is a late model repair manual :D
