Hi. My washer won't spin or agitate. It's a frigidaire gallery top load with model number GLWS1233AS2. I don't know what to do to fix it but am usually smart about following directions. I can't afford a new washer right now and am hoping someone can help me by telling me what the problem might be. The washer fills with water fine and the water drains but it won't agitate to actually wash the clothes and it won't spin. My basement did recently flood and I don't know if that's why my washer doesn't work now. I used it about 2 days before the flood and it was fine. Please help. Thank you.

Okay, it is possible your motor was damaged in the flood, since it sits on the bottom of the machine, but lets check out some other things first.

1. Your lid switch can be malfunctioning, and you should check it out, but if the timer moves it is not likely the problem. HBowever, this is easy and cost free to check so do it first.

2. You need to see if the timer is sending power to the motor. Take off the front panel and take off the belt and see if the motor will move when the machine is in spin mode. If so, the problem is likely in the transmission.

3. If the motor will not turn in spin mode, and the transmission pulley turns easily the problem is either that the motor is not getting power, or your capacitor was damaged by the flood or it is defective.

This service manual will show you how to get to the components and check things out for your machine.

Thank you so much. I tried the things you suggested and seems that the motor and transmission are gone. I ordered a new washer from Lowes today (a Maytag). It will be delivered tomorrow.

Good luck with your new machine. If the motor and/or transmission are toast then I think you made the correct decision putting your money into a new model.

Thanks for the reply.
