I've got a recurring defrost problem on this side by side. 1st time I tested defrost heater and def therm for continuty, had it so I replaced main board. Two weeks later unit frosted again. This time I went to the (new) main board, disconnected 3 terminal 'line' coming into board, jumpered line to defrost terminal and heater did NOT come on. I know I had continuity on the heater and defrost therm when I tested two weeks prioir. Any ideas?

Unplug the refrigerator, remove the wire from the "defrost heater" terminal (J9) on the control board and measure the resistance between this wire and the neutral orange wire (pin 9 on the J7 connector). The freezer must be cold at this time.

If the reading is about 22 Ohms then most likely the thermistor on top of the evaporator is bad. This thermistor controls the defrost cycle while the thermostat is just a safety device to prevent possible overheating if the heater stuck on.
