My Amana Stainless Designer Series dryer Model LEM 547W started squeaking today and I have determined that it is one of the rollers at the back of the dryer that helps support the drum. Checking in the parts section, I see that there are two rollers used and that the following parts are listed:
either
Roller, cylinder w/instr Part Number: AP2402250 made by SPEEDQUEEN $11.84
or
Cylinder roller Part Number: AP4046756 made by WHIRLPOOL $4.88
What is the difference in these two rollers other than price? Can either one be used?
Should new shafts be installed? Does the brand make any difference on the shaft? For example, will a SPEEDQUEEN roller cylinder work on a WHIRLPOOL shaft. Is there any lubricant that should be used?
While I have the dryer open and apart are there any other parts that you recommend that I look at or replace?
Finally, what part of these rollers starts to squeak - there doesn't seem to be any bearings in them.

I would expect you can use either set. Usually the Speed Queen brand is a lower priced item, but that is not the case here. Call in your order from APP and give them both your model and serial numbers, and they will get you the right one, and I expect it will be the less expensive one.
I generally do not replace the shafts unless their is visible damage. The rubber part of the rollers is what seems to wear out.
While you have it open clean out all of the lint inside the machine and in the venting both internal and external. I would change the belt and idler pulley also, and then you should be good to go.

Ok - thanks. I placed my order before you responded but I think I made decisions consistent with what you said for the most part.
I decided to replace the shafts too because there did appear to be some shininess on one of the shafts where it appeared to be a little flat.
I have removed all the lint throughout.
I also ordered a new belt but didn't think of the idler pulley. I'll order one of those too.
Is there any particular lubrication needed on the shafts for any of the pulleys?

You can put some "Zoom Oil" on the roller shafts if you want. It is a high temp lubricant that seems to work pretty well.
Good luck with your repairs. Sounds like you have this under control.
