My GE fridge side by side with water and ice thru door started making some cycling howling noises for about 2 days after that stopped it has run constantly. Seems the freezer is also starting to get warmer and not as cold as it should be. I see a very little frost on the inside back panel of the freezer. Could it be the defrost timer is shot? Where is it located? I also have a problem with the water line freezing in the door and have to defrost it with a hair dryer from time to time. Thanks

Very good, you only have a defrost problem. Next, defrost the coils with a hair dryer and inspect the defrost heater and the defrost terminator clipped to the top of the evaporator. Most probable problem is the defrost heater. If it looks black and a section looks open, it's probably bad. You can check it with a meter, or just take it apart to confirm. Order the parts here, heater AP4355467, thermostat, AP3884317

I see a small round item(pink and orange wires) and a small capsule (white wires)looking item clipped at the top coils. I have not removed the lamp panel, do I need to do that to find what I am looking for?

Also the fridge will not run unless I trun up the knob on the freezer side. I tried running just the fridge side but it will not run.

You are looking at the thermisters, long white plastic items. You need to replace the thermostat cliped to the top of the evaporator, metal base, about the size of a quarter.

I see the small round black thermostat clipped to the coil. I also followed the larger wires to the bottom and found a long glass tube with wire inside, I assume this is a defrost coil and it has a broken wires inside and looks dark and I actually pulled one side off and the wire is broken inside. Come Monday I will replace both the heater and thermostat. Thanks For all your help and patience. Gary
