Neither the frig or freezer are working. We noticed the ice melting and then both sides got warmer and warmer. The compressor (or what I believe is the compressor) kicks on and runs for a few seconds and then cuts off. Is there a simple fix for this or should I just call a repair man?

Sounds like the problem is a bad compressor start relay, but there is a small chance for the compressor itself to be bad as well. I would replace the start relay because: it is inexpensive part, it is more common problem and it's easy to do yourself. If the new relay would not fix the problem and your refrigerator is less than 5 years old, call Frigidaire for the free of charge compressor warranty service.
